(BEDFORD) - Yes, your house was shaking this morning...both times!
One good earthquake deserves another. The United States Geological SURVEY and National Weather Service have both confirmed a second earthquake, this time centered underneath Bone Gap, Illinois, just 7 miles south of West Salem, Illinois, where the first shaker came from. This second earthquake came in at 11:14am this morning.
This second one measured 4.6 on the Richter Scale. Officials originally assumed this second tremor was merely an aftershock from the first earthquake, however, it has been confirmed that it is a second, separate quake.
Right at 5:38am this morning, the studios of WBIW started shaking at a seemingly low frequency and a number of calls about the same have been coming into this station ever since.
Reports of whole houses shaking, one man's computer nearly being shaken off the desk and one caller said it felt, at first, like someone was trying to break into her house.
Calls and reports have been coming in from as close as Bedford, Mitchell and Bloomington and Greene County and all the way to Louisville and Indianapolis.
Geologists are currently saying the quake's epicenter just 6 miles outside of West Salem, IL, which is about 104 miles south/southwest of Bedford, and 60 miles northwest of Evansville.
The Chicago Tribune is currently indicating the earthquake was felt in the Windy City, and the same thing is currently posted on the website of the Kansas City Star. Additional reports show the quake has been felt as far north as Milwaukee, as far east as Cleveland, as far south as Nashville, TN, and there's even reports in Des Moines, Iowa.
Reports coming in indicate the strength of the earthquake measured 5.2 on the Richter Scale.
