Last updated on Monday, April 14, 2008

(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Sheriff’s officers have one man in custody after he allegedly threatened an officer with a baseball bat.

Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig tells WBIW News they were called to a disturbance at the 300 block of Old US-50 West regarding people arguing and wielding baseball bats.

When the officer arrived, nothing was there but a couple bats on the lawn and a damaged vehicle in the driveway, and nobody answered the door.

After scouting around the area, they found one man, 45-year-old Martin Robbins allegedly damaging property with a bat, and confronted him.

Sheriff Craig said Robbins made a threatening gesture with the bat toward the officer, and then took off running.

Robbins was caught quickly and charged with resisting arrest by fleeing and by force with a deadly weapon, public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
