(BEDFORD) - A young Bedford man is facing a felony battery charge for allegedly striking his girlfriend early Sunday morning.

Bedford police say 19-year-old John Thoms was at the apartment of a woman when, according to reports, they got into an altercation and Thoms reportedly struck the woman with an open hand to the face in front of two children, ages 2 and 4.

Bedford police were called and they located Thoms at his Thomasson Court apartment. They took him in to Lawrence County jail and charged him with a felony count of domestic battery in front of a child under 16 years of age.
