(UNDATED) - This week is National Flood Safety Week.
Angela Goldman with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources says one of the main dangers is driving during, and after a flood. She says it takes only 4 inches of water to sweep a vehicle off the road.
She says if you do get stuck, stay with your vehicle. She also says to have an emergency plan in place in your home, know where you should meet and have an emergency kit with plywood, plastic sheeting, and tools.
An emergency kit for the car is a good idea too, which should contain canned food, can opener, clothes, flashlight with extra batteries and a battery-powered radio.
Floods and flash floods kill more people in the U.S. than any other natural disaster.
