(UNDATED) - State law enforcement agencies are gearing up for Saint Patrick's Day, and no, they don't mean by stocking up on green beer and cheap, plastic bowler hats.

In order to help keep drivers safe on the roads with festivities coming up, especially with the Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament coming to the Circle City, police, sheriff's deputies and state troopers are in the middle of a traffic safety blitz which will carry on until March 23rd.

The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute says the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recorded 105 fatal accidents during Saint Patricks Day last year, and of those, 44% of them involved drivers over the legal limit.

The ICJI reminds revelers to make sure to have a safe way home when they go out, including using a designated driver, or a taxi or, if available, a community "Sober Ride" program.
