Bedford Police Make Arrest In String Of Thefts From GM Powertrain

Last updated on Tuesday, March 25, 2008

(BEDFORD) - Bedford police have closed the books on a suspected theft case involving parts reportedly walking out of the GM Powertrain plant in Bedford, culminating in the arrest of one Bedford man.

Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley tells WBIW News they were called in mid December by GM security personnel saying they were having fully packaged electronic parts turning up missing from the facility.

An investigation ensued and they say they started seeing these items turn up on the auction website eBay.

Parsley says GM security personnel completed what he refers to as a couple "covert buys" of those parts from the website, and that led them to 34-year-old Timothy Greene of Bedford.

GM security tag-teamed with Bedford police detectives and, yesterday, a warrant was issued for Greene's arrest.

Greene faces a felony count of theft and was lodged in Lawrence County jail.

Police say the current tentative dollar amount of missing items is in the $10,000 ballpark.
