Visitors To Flood Bedford For IHSAA Girls Basketball Tourney

Last updated on Wednesday, February 13, 2008

(BEDFORD) - Saturday is girls basketball day, and all eyes are on Bedford.

The IHSAA Girls Basketball Regional Tournament comes to Bedford North Lawrence High School Saturday, and teams from Seymour, Columbus, Martinsville and all the way from Newburgh will be making their way to the Stone City.

Jeff Callahan at Bedford North Lawrence expects between 1,500 and 2,000 people to be coming into town for the event.

However, one team that won't be playing is the BNL Lady Stars who were eliminated in sectional play. Saturday starts at 10:00am as the 18-5 Seymour Owls take on the 18-5 Columbus East Olympians.

Then, at noon, the 16-7 Martinsville Artesians take on the 10-11 Newburgh Castle Knights.

Then, after enough time to rest up, study and get a sandwich, the winners of both games will face each other at 8:00pm at BNL.

The only area school that made it to regional play is Eastern Greene in Division 2A.

The Thunderbirds will hit the boards Saturday morning at 11:00am against Covenant Christian as part of the tournament at Forest Park High School.
