Snow Truck Tips Over, Injures One

Last updated on Wednesday, February 20, 2008

(MITCHELL) - A Lawrence County snow truck tipped over this morning injuring one person near Mitchell.

Lawrence County Sheriff's reports say the heavy truck, driven by 52-year-old Hulen Kidd of Bedford, was backing up from a dead end and backed the rear of the vehicle over a culvert.

When Kidd tried to get the sand-loaded snow truck back up on the road, however, the truck tipped and landed on its passenger side, injuring 58-year-old Larry McPherson of Mitchell who was in the right-hand seat.

Lawrence County Highway Superintendant Dan Lucas told WBIW News Kidd went to Dunn Memorial Hospital for a mandatory drug test which he says came back clear. McPherson was taken by ambulance to Bedford Regional Medical Center for what's being called minor injuries to his upper arm or shoulder.

Lucas says McPherson should be going home later today and be clear to return to duty tomorrow.

The truck suffered seemingly minor damage and was towed to the Lawrence County Highway Complex.
