Icy Conditions Cause Two Accidents, Injure Seven

Last updated on Monday, February 25, 2008

(LAWRENCE COUNTY) - Icy conditions over the weekend caused a couple accidents injuring a total of 7 people.

The first one happened Friday night on Fleenor Road just south of IN-60. In that one, Lawrence County Sheriff's reports say 17-year-old Zachary Cowen of Orleans was southbound on Fleenor Road in front of the Fiber Tech facility when he lost control of his pickup on the ice and ran into a Duke Energy pole, breaking the pole and sending his truck into a spin.

Both Cowan and his 17-year-old passenger, Haley Garriott, also of Orleans, were taken to Dunn Memorial Hospital.

Then, Saturday afternoon, 17-year-old Christina Bowlin of Bedford was on IN-450 heading toward Williams when 24-year-old Neil Embree of Williams pulled out of his icy driveway and into the path of Bowlin's vehicle.

Bowlin ended up T-boning Embree's vehicle sending everyone in her car to the hospital including 19-year-old Joshua Grandstaff, 20-year-old Lindsey Grandstaff, and newborn Alexis Grandstaff.

Embree complained of pain in his lower arm but refused medical treatment.

No citations were issued in either incident.
