(BEDFORD) - Former Lawrence County Sheriff Kent Hawkins has pleaded guilty to 2 felony charges and is facing up to 11 years behind bars.
Hawkins was facing felony charges of forgery and official misconduct relating to misdeeds he engaged in during a gun buyback program.
The investigators turned up evidence that Hawkins had forged the signatures of other officers on buyback forms and then kept some of the weapons.
Official misconduct charges came in when investigators found Hawkins had not turned over a number of items to his successor, current Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig, including dozens of firearms and even a snow plow.
Hawkins' co-defendants, former Chief Matron Shauna Hawkins and Officer John Potter, have both pled not guilty to charges facing them.
Shauna Hawkins faces a felony charge of sexual misconduct.
Potter faces a felony count of forgery.
