BPD, Sheriff's Dept. Tag Team Massive Drug Bust

Last updated on Friday, February 1, 2008

(BEDFORD) - Think of this number…$360,000. That’s the value of recoveries made by a joint force between Lawrence County and Bedford officers in a drug bust yesterday morning.

More than 112 pounds of pot, a pound and a half of meth, about $20,000 worth of stolen property, and almost $120,000 cash were seized when a combined squad of more than 20 Bedford and County officers descended on a residence on Bryantsville Road and others near Mitchell at about 4:00 yesterday morning.

What's almost as big as the bust is how it was made. "The Lawrence County Police Department and the Bedford Police Department are working together at this time to fight the drug activity in Lawrence County," reports Sheriff Sam Craig.

He continues, "Both agencies have talked and we have personnel actively assigned to working drugs in the county to combat the problem. This is the only task the officers are working with because we feel it is such a high priority in our county."

Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley says this is the biggest drug bust of his career, and may be the biggest ever in Lawrence County. Parsley says, "As the Sheriff and I were speaking, in our years of law enforcement, we can't recall anything, any kind of seizure or bust that's been bigger in the Lawrence County area. So, again, we're quite pleased by the effort that has been made by the men that made this seizure, and we're quite pleased and quite excited about the joint effort that the two departments have entered into and look forward to more activity like this."

One man was arrested, 23-year-old Joshua Brazzell of Bryantsville and he stands charged with felony counts of dealing marijuana over 30 grams and dealing methamphetamine.

Sheriff Craig says the investigation continues and we can expect more charges to be filed, and he also asks anyone else with information to call the County or Bedford Departments.

He says you can remain anonymous if you wish.
