IRS Encourages Use Of E-File System To Taxpayers

Last updated on Friday, January 4, 2008

(UNDATED) - With millions of tax packages beginning to arrive in Hoosier mailboxes this week, the Internal Revenue Service is encouraging taxpayers to use the internet to file their returns.

The IRS claims the E-File system helps reduce errors and speed up refunds. IRS Spokeswoman Jodie Reynolds says the method isn't as complicated as some taxpayers fear. Reynolds says the system is faster and eliminates mathematical errors.

Last year, nearly 80 million tax returns used E-File, representing about 57 percent of all returns.

If you still choose to file paper returns, Reynolds has advice. It's important to take your time, double check the math, and verify all the social security numbers on the returns.
