Greene County Roads Claim 15 Lives In 2007

Last updated on Sunday, January 13, 2008

(BLOOMFIELD) - The year 2007 was a deadly one on Greene County roads, where 15 people lost their lives in traffic accidents.

"It is a record number this year," Greene County Sheriff Terry Pierce said as December drew to a close. He said excessive speed often is a factor in the crashes.

Sheriff Pierce is troubled by the increased number of fatalities this past year. He said 2006, with eight road deaths, was a more normal year as far as people dying in vehicle crashes in the county of 33,000 people and 982 miles of road, 600 of them gravel.
