(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man and his female companion are behind bars after a speeding traffic stop gone wrong.
Bedford police say they stopped 34-year-old Matthew Moore and his companion 32-year-old Amber Noble near the intersection of 14th and I Streets after a Bedford officer allegedly observed their vehicle speeding.
The officer ran the plates and allegedly realized the car was improperly registered, and when speaking with Moore, says he smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and on his person.
When asked to submit to a field sobriety test, Moore allegedly became argumentative, and when officers tried to arrest him, he reportedly became physically combative, pushing officers and attempting to strike them.
Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley says officers had to forcibly subdue Moore, made the arrest and took him to a local hospital for a blood draw.
Moore stands charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, resisting arrest by force, driving with an open alcohol container, speeding and false and fictitious registration.
Noble stands charged with public intoxication.
