Death, Doom, Destruction: March 2007

Last updated on Tuesday, January 1, 2008

(UNDATED) - Death, doom and destruction dominated area news in march of 2007, between a convicted murderer’s continued appeals, a plane crash, and an electrocution.

Behrman Killer Seeks Representation

March started off with Attorney Patrick Baker agreeing to represent convicted killer John Myers II pro bono.

Myers continued to make appeals to his 65-year sentence for killing 19-year-old Jill Behrman.

Plane Goes Down In Tunnelton

In one of the biggest tragedies in Bedford history, a plane went down on Tunnelton Road after leaving Grissom Airport, killing the pilot and his 8-year-old daughter in a suspected murder-suicide.

47-year-old Eric Johnson was flying a small Cessna aircraft with his 8-year-old daughter Emily in the passenger seat when aviation officials say the plane took a hard right turn and careened into the home of his former mother-in-law Vivian Pace.

Officials still have not released a final report, however, the National Traffic Safety Board said, in a preliminary report, they could find no problems with the aircraft.

Students And Staff Look For Missing Purdue Student

And a Bloomington native and college freshman was electrocuted at his Purdue dorm toward the end of the month.

The Tippecanoe County coroner said Wade Steffey tripped and fell behind a transformer in the middle of January, and was hidden back there until he was found toward the end of March.

Steffey's parents would eventually sue the university, and win a $500,000 dollar settlement from Purdue.
