(UNDATED) - June was a month that began and ended in tragedy again in Bedford.
Elderly Man Kills Girlfriend
On Monday, June 4th, a man called the Lawrence County sheriff's department saying he had just killed his girlfriend.
Sheriff's reports say 70-year-old John Reynolds told police he had killed 67-year-old Arminta Sue Magner at her residence, saying he would wait for police to come get him and that he would probably need a lawyer, too.
The terminally ill Reynolds would be declared incompetetent to stand trial the following month, as his problems with brain cancer left him unable to understand the proceedings nor assist in his own defense.
At the end of august, Reynolds' cancer would claim his own life.
Recount Confirms Williams Victory Over Klumpp
The final results of the Bedford mayoral primary would come in this month, confirming Jean Williams' razor-thin 25-vote margin of victory over incumbent Joe Klumpp.
Republican party and Microvote officials would pour over the votes for 5 hours, and said not a single one changed.
French Lick Resort And Casino Changes Hands
The Indiana Gaming Commission would allow a change in ownership of the French Lick Resort and Casino, allowing the game-house to come under single ownership.
The Lauth Property Group sold it's 50-percent stake in the property to the family of Bloomington billionaire William Cook, ending a legal dispute between the partners.
Former Sheriff Turns Himself In To Authorities
Former sheriff Brent Hawkins would turn himself in before the middle of the month after an investigation into a reported federal gun buyback scheme.
Hawkins would report to Lawrence County Jail, charged with 2 counts of official misconduct and forgery.
State police investigators say Hawkins was taking disused police weapons home and signing other officers names along with training officer john potter.
Additionally, jail matron Shauna Hawkins would be charged with sexual misconduct. All three are expected to stand trial in early 2008.
IU's "Coach Hep" Dies
Big news closed in June of 2007 with the death of IU football coach Terry Hoeppner.
The 59-year-old football coach, referred to as "Coach Hep," died from brain tumors after developing a 9-14 record as the Hoosiers' football coach.
