(UNDATED) - Politics, public works and the appeal of a convicted murder kept hold of people’s attention during the month of February.
Behrman Killer Seeks Appeal
In the second week of the month, John Myers II, who was convicted of murdering Indiana University student Jill Behrman in 2000, sought an appeal to his October 2006 conviction citing jury misconduct.
Behrman is said to have disappeared on a bike ride in May of 2000, and was found dead in 2003 in rural Morgan County.
A week later, a Morgan County superior court judge declared the juror's misbehavior did not warrant a new trial.
Myer's attorney filed papers in late December saying jurors drank alcohol, smuggled in a TV set, and at least one called home on a bailiff's cell phone.
Klumpp Files For Re-Election
That same day, incumbent Bedford Mayor Joe Klumpp declared his filing for re-election.
Klumpp said he wanted to finish several initiatives he had started, including the plaza drive project.
16th Street and John Williams Connector?
And the Plaza Drive project wasn't, and still isn't without controversy.
The road, which currently runs south of 16th Street, is scheduled to extend from 16th to John Williams Boulevard, and that project was given the green light on February 21st.
Some people have expressed misgivings about the project. One woman complained of the traffic it would bring in a letter to the Bedford paper, another Bedford man has claimed shenanigans are afoot at city hall, with the second phase of the project.
