(UNDATED) - July was a more average news month than most, starting with kids getting a new place to play, and ending with a man being injured at the Monroe County Fair.

Two New Playgrounds For Bedford Area

The Bedford Urban Enterprise Association announced their plans to build a pair of playgrounds at Edgewood and Sycamore parks. Ground would break in the beginning of August.

Bedford Boy Drowns

Shortly after the middle of the month, a Bedford boy drowned in Lake Monroe.

5-year-old Zach Colvin drowned in Lake Monroe on the afternoon of the 17th, while swimming with family at the Paynetown recreation area.

Colvin was pulled from about 5 feet of water and was taken to Bloomington Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Motorcyclists Flock To ABATE Boogie

The American Bikers Aimed Toward Education held their annual rally at a park just north of Springville.

The ABATE boogie celebration was held for the 6th year in a row in Lawrence County, bringing with it famous music acts such as Rick Derringer, famous for his song "Rock And Roll Hoochie Koo," and others like Ricochet, and Quiet Riot.

Teen Injured At Monroe County Fair

Finally, a young Ellettsville man was injured during the Monroe County Fair while he was leading a steer out of a barn.

Reports show 19-year-old Ross Arvin was knocked to the ground by the steer and fractured his skull in 4 places after hitting his head hard on the concrete.

The Monroe County 4-H club was well as community members from all over would show an outpouring of support after the boys injury left him in a drug-induced coma for ages.

Extra controversy ensued when reports of what happened conflicted, between fair organizers and the Van Buren Fire Department. The former saying Arvin fell, and fire officials saying he was trampled.

To this day, Ross Arvin is in rehabilitative care in Indianapolis where his mother, Susan, visits him daily.
