Woman Dead In Jeffersonville After Hitting Semi Axle

(JEFFERSONVILLE) - A Jeffersonville woman was killed in a freak accident in Clark County after hitting the rear wheels of a semi trailer yesterday.

State police Sellersburg say 25-year-old Samantha Gaither was driving east on port road in Jeffersonville in her Mustang when she crossed the centerline and struck one of the rear axles of 61-year-old James Casey's tractor trailer.

Gaither struck the axle so hard she knocked a wheel off the trailer which then struck the pickup of 24-year-old Shawn Pace of Charlestown.

Pace and Casey were uninjured in the accident, however, a representative of the Clark County Coroner's Office pronounced Gaither dead at the scene.

State troopers are continuing to investigate the accident, no cause is listed as having been determined as of yet.
