South Lawrence Water Customers May See Rate Hike

(MITCHELL) - Water rates may be on the rise for South Lawrence Utility customers.

South Lawrence Utilities has made a request to increase water rates and charges, and the Indiana Office of the Utility Consumer Conselor is asking for public comment as they review the utility's request.

Current plans are to increase South Lawrence water rates from $46.45 per 5,000 gallons, to $58.22. The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission plans on having the matter reviewed by January 17th, and is asking for comments and concerns no later than Monday, January 14th.

The rate hikes are aimed at paying for operating and maintenance costs as well as debt service costs. South Lawrence officials able to comment on the issue were not able to be reached by press time.
