Christmas Spirit Takes Over WBIW's Airwaves Christmas Day

Last updated on Monday, December 24, 2007

In the spirit of the holiday season, 1340 AM WBIW is bringing you a variety of Christmas-relating programs on Christmas Eve and Christmas day!

December 24th, 2007 (Christmas Eve)

6:00pmHandel's Messiah

Brought to you by Mitchell Manor and the Bedford Federal Savings Bank

A few excerpts are familiar to almost everybody, unlike any other work by its prolific and misunderstood composer. Messiah remains Handel's best known work, although this was not a status that it enjoyed until the last few years of his life, brought about by annual performances in Handel's oratorio seasons and charitable benefit concerts at the Foundling Hospital (an organization for underprivileged children, and which still exists today as The Thomas Coram Foundation). It was not originally envisaged as a Christmas tradition, but its microcosm of Christian doctrine and faith was intended as a timely thought-provoker for Lent and Easter.

December 25th, 2007 (Christmas Day)

5:00amTouch of Christmas with Jerry Stewart

On this special program you'll hear the story of John Bradford, a man that you probably don't know his story, but have probably quoted his famous saying more than once. You'll be surprised why he said it, and why he was finally burned at the stake.

You'll hear the story of one Civil War soldier who was left for dead on the battlefield at Antietam - but he would not die. What kept him going? A promise to his wife - "No matter what, I'll be home for Christmas."

Then there's the story of Martha, a girl I knew in the 8th grade. Of the cruel words she endured because of her appearance, but how a card, a belated Christmas card changed everything for her.

Of course there can be no Christmas program without the telling of the story of that first Christmas. Of a small Babe born to a world in desperate need of a Saviour, and how this small Babe touched all of mankind.

It is a program sure to warm your heart and to make your Christmas season far more bright.

11:00amWith Love From Home

Brought to you by the Bedford Federal Savings Bank

Thousands of American troops will spend this Christmas holiday away from their homes and their loved ones. This year's Fox News Radio Christmas Special is for them - we've asked Fox News Radio affiliates in several cities around the country for an audio Christmas card - with contributions from these stations, we've compiled a one-hour holiday greeting to the troops overseas.
