Whooping Crane Lost, But Now Found

Last updated on Thursday, November 29, 2007

(SCOTTSBURG) - A whooping crane that got separated from other migrating birds while being led by ultra light aircraft pilots in Southeast Indiana has been found.

The endangered bird was spotted on Wednesday near Scottsburg, Indiana. Wildlife crews had been searching for the animal since last Friday.

The bird apparently lost touch with 16 other migrating birds while flying from Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge in Indiana to a farm in Shelby County, Ky.

The whooping crane is one of about 300 remaining in the wild. As adults, they can stand 5 feet tall with wing spans of about 7 feet.
