(COLUMBUS) - An Indianapolis TV station has discovered a local oil-service chain has been suckering customers.

WRTV in Indianapolis has found the Mr. Lubie oil change chain stores in Columbus, Indiana has been passing off their cheap oil as more expensive name-brand oil, and charging the difference.

According to the investigation, customers would go in the store and ask for the more expensive Valvoline oil, which raises the cost of the service from $15.99 to $34.99, but would get the cheaper oil anyway.

Polaris Laboratories in Indianapolis confirmed the deception when they found higher levels of boron and molybdenum in the oil, which was not consistent of the Valvoline product.

When confronted, Mr. Lubie owner Bud Hukill didn't deny the charge, and said he would pull the Valvoline labels off the tanks and eliminate the product from their offerings.

Former employees interviewed by the TV station allege it has been going on since 2003.

The report only covered the Columbus stores, and did not mention the stores in Bedford, Bloomington and elsewhere. Customers can call (812) 522-5179 with questions, concerns and complaints.
