(BLOOMINGTON) - A new Indiana University study says the number of heart attacks among nonsmokers in Monroe County sank by more than two-thirds in the months after a countywide smoking ban took effect.

The study found the number of heart attacks in the county dropped from 17 in the 22 months before the ban took effect to five in the 22 months afterward.

Some researchers say the results suggest smoking bans may quickly improve the health of nonsmokers. But others say that it's tough to draw conclusion based on one variable.
