(MITCHELL) - Most of the details of an accident in Mitchell that killed a baby and his grandmother have been preliminarily released.

A preliminary report done by Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies says 71-year-old Joseph Bender of Indianapolis was traveling southbound on SR-37 when he came upon 22-year-old Tasha King's Pontiac as she was readying to turn onto Gun Club Road near Mitchell.

A witness following Bender's full-size Dodge truck says he didn't see brake lights before the impact, and that Bender struck King's vehicle going more than 50 miles per hour. From there, King's sedan was pushed out in front of the minivan of 51-year-old Alan Scott of Paoli, who struck the Pontiac on the passenger rear quarter.

Tasha King was transported by Dunn EMS for neck pain.

34-year-old Michael Anderson, who was in the passenger seat, displayed severe bleeding from his head and was transported by ambulance as well.

50-year-old Jane King of Mitchell, and 13-day-old Isaiah King, who were both in the back seat, were both killed as a result of severe head trauma during the wreck.

Scott, the minivan driver, complained of pain to his abdomen and pelvis, but did not require transfer to a medical facility.

Three witnesses stated they didn't believe turner applied brakes before the accident.

No citations are listed as having been issued yet.
