State Police Find Tank Gun Simulator In Orleans

Last updated on Thursday, October 11, 2007

(ORLEANS) - An Orleans man is being investigated for illegal possession of a destructive device. The device in question? A Hoffman M21 tank gunfire simulator.

At about 6:00PM yesterday, Indiana state police Jasper were called to Orleans to investigate a report of a man carrying an unknown explosive device around Wilson Street. Troopers located the subject in question, an Orleans man named Jacob Morgan.

Morgan voluntarily turned over the device to troopers and the area was secured. The state police explosive ordinance disposal team then took the simulator to a safe location for destruction.

According to Department of Military and Veterans Affairs material, the Hoffman M21 tank gunfire simulator is intended to simulate the explosion, flash and smoke signatures of a tank's main gun. It is rated as having a 20 meter flash burn radius, and it is recommended to wear goggles, full sleeves and a Kevlar helmet before use.

No arrests have been made yet; state police are still investigating the matter.
