Man Severely Injured After Rolling ATV

Last updated on Tuesday, October 2, 2007

(ENGLISH) - Indiana conservation officers are investigating an ATV crash in southern Orange County that injured a 44-year-old man.

The driver, Jeffery Applegate of English, Indiana, drove his Yamaha ATV to the end of his driveway to check the mail along with his 2-year-old son.

Once Applegate retrieved his mail, he turned the vehicle around to come back, but his left side tires apparently fell off, causing the 4-wheeler to roll over on top of him. His 2-year-old son was thrown clear of the accident and was not injured.

Applegate was treated by Orange County EMS for trauma to his head and severe leg injuries, and was then transported by helicopter to the University of Louisville Hospital.

Conservation officers are continuing to investigate the incident, but no criminal charges are expected.
