(BEDFORD) - Bedford police responded to a call of a fight at the Wal-Mart late last night.

When officers arrived, they witnessed a man and a Wal-Mart loss-prevention officer in what officials described as a "wresting match" near the grocery doors.

Police say the fight was due to loss-prevention officials allegedly witnessing 24-year-old Matthew Ross of Bedford, and his companion, 32-year-old Kimberly Enoch of Martinsville, shoplifting.

After police made the arrest, they searched both persons and their vehicle and found clothes and cologne from the store in their possession, and also found clothes from Maurice's, Kmart and JC Penney they presume were also stolen. Additionally, they found Ross to be in possession of a prescription drug called Xanax.

Ross was charged with theft, public intoxication, resisting arrest with force, and possession and was taken to Bedford Regional Medical Center for the drugs in his system and the injuries he sustained.

Enoch was charged with theft and was found by Dunn medical personnel to not be injured.
