Last updated on Wednesday, September 26, 2007

UAW workers can head back to work this afternoon.

UAW Local 440's Jack woods contacted WBIW News at about 5:30 this morning and said it's back to work for everyone on 2nd shift. Woods said some GM Powertrain workers, btoh in maintenance and production, may be called back to work for 1st shift, and those who are called in should report for work.

After that, it's business as usual for second shift workers and beyond.

The United Auto Workers in Detroit contacted local officials at around 5:00AM this morning, informing them of their accepting a tentative agreement, concluding the 42 hour nationwide strike.

Local 440 president Darrell Thimling told WBIW News shortly before 6:30 this morning that details have not been released to him yet, but Detroit did call to tell everyone to go back to work. Fox News reports the tentative agreement includes shifting most of GM's underfunded retiree health care program to a UAW trust. Thimling said he and Woods will go back to the Motor City in the next couple days to find out all the details.
