Police Investigate Hanging Death

Last updated on Monday, August 6, 2007

(SHOALS) - A Shoals man was found hanged to death on a railroad trestle after he and his wife had been arguing a few hours earlier.

Indiana State Police say 36-year-old Sonya Davis and her husband Lawrence Gibson "Gibby" Davis, Jr., had been fighting. Sonya reported that she was being battered by her spouse.

When police arrived Gibby had left the residence. Sonya was taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital to be treated for her injures.

Meanwhile, a teenager discovered a body hanging from the train bridge. Officers later identified the body as that of Gibby Davis, Jr.

The Martin County Coroner ruled Davis' death as asphyxiation.
