(BLOOMFIELD) - Bloomfield School Superintendent Dan Sichting ordered Bloomfield School evacuated at 8:00 this morning due to a bomb threat.
Bloomfield police Marshall Kenny Tharp told WBIW news that the threat was called in at about 7:45AM Friday morning, before school started. At 8:30AM, school Superintendent Dan Sichting ordered Bloomfield Elementary and High Schools evacuated. Between 8:30am and 9:00am, Department of Defense bomb squads from NWS Crane arrived to secure the building.
Marshall Tharp said the search and securing of the school can take between 8 and 10 hours from the time the bomb squad arrived.
In a phone call to WBIW news, Greene County Emergency Management director Roger Axe said, regardless if a bomb is found, the caller will certainly face civil damages and, possibly, federal criminal charges due to the nature of the threat.
However, Marshall Tharp said nothing can happen until everything is secure at the school.
This is the second bomb threat Bloomfield School has faced in as many weeks. The last one occurred during the school's open house night, when the school was packed with, not only students and teachers, but parents and grandparents as well.
Axe said, above all, it's not funny.
