Bedford Man Hits Vehicles At High Rate Of Speed

Last updated on Thursday, August 9, 2007

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man has been charged with driving left of center after he was involved in two accidents.

Police say 42-year-old Russell Crane was heading out of town at a high rate of speed when he hit a parked car near the Smoke Shack on Mitchell Road. Before police arrived, Crane took off again at a very high rate of speed, according to witnesses, heading south.

Crane came upon several cars near the Sandpit Road intersection. 72-year-old Velma Goen, of Bedford, was pulling out onto Mitchell Road when she was hit by Crane's auto.

Crane then ran head-on into the auto that 52-year-old Bradley Sturgeon, of Bloomington, was driving.

Crane suffered internal injures following the accident and was taken by ambulance to an area hospital to treat his wounds. Sturgeon complained of shoulder pain after the accident. Goen was apparently not injured.

Police estimated damage to all three vehicles was between $10,000 and $25,000.
