Last updated on Tuesday, July 31, 2007

(SPRINGVILLE) - A Lawrence County police cruiser was slightly damaged over the weekend in a chase that occurred in the northeastern part of the county.

Lawrence County Chief Deputy Tony Siedl says an officer spotted a suspicious vehicle at the stoplight near the Avoca turnoff on Hwy. 37 when it took off during the red light. The driver of the auto began to head west toward Springville.

Officers in three police cruisers began to pursue the 16-year-old. The chase proceeded through Springville, southbound on Reuter Lane and east on Maul Ridge Road.

The officers tried to stop the teen by a system of roadblocks during the chase. Eventually, the teen driver stopped the car and officers were able to arrest him. However, a passenger in the car fled on foot.

The youth was charged with two counts of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, reckless driving, and resisting law enforcement by a vehicle. He was taken to the Lawrence County Security Center to meet with his father.

The passenger, 19-year-old Roger Salmon, of Washington, was later apprehended. He was charged with resisting arrest by fleeing on foot. He was taken to the Jackson County Detention Center in Brownstown.
