Last updated on Tuesday, July 24, 2007

(JUDAH) - Five people were injured in a three-car accident that occurred at the State Road 37 and Old State Road 37 intersection near Judah.

Three vehicles approached the highway stoplight, one after another. The first two vehicles slowed down as the light turned red. The third driver, 17-year-old Kyle Meredith, of Mitchell, apparently fell asleep at the wheel and slammed into the rear of the second vehicle, driven by 31-year-old Clifford Mitcheff, of Bedford. Meredith told police he woke up after hitting Mitcheff's vehicle.

Mitcheff's vehicle then smashed into 43-year-old Beverly Woods' vehicle. Woods, of Norman, had two passengers suffer injures in the accident.

63-year-old Carol Anderson, of Bedford, and 22-year-old Wade Matthew, of Williams, complained of neck pain, as did Woods, Mitcheff and Meredith.

Meredith was taken to Bedford Regional Medical Center Emergency Room. The others refused treatment at the scene.

The Marshall Volunteer Fire Department assisted after the accident.
