Election Recount Yields Same Numbers

Last updated on Thursday, June 7, 2007

(BEDFORD) - Representatives from both Republican incumbent Mayor Joe Klumpp and Primary election winner Republican Jean Williams were in the Lawrence County Courtroom today.

Both parties were at the courtroom to watch the recount of the May 8th Primary. Klumpp requested the recount after losing to Jean Williams by a 25 vote margin.

The Recount Team of Republican Harold Snead and Democrat Sandy Young and Microvote mechanical programmer David Staggs spent a total of 5 hours re-adding the votes in the 15 Bedford precincts.

None of the numbers changed in any of the precincts, however, there was some concern about three absentee votes. Snead says they decided to not count the votes because state law states they have 10 days to show proof of identification and address. None of the three returned with additional information.

Others helping in the recount were Microvote Programmer David Staggs, Lawrence County Attorney Dave Smith and Lawrence County Clerk Julie Blackwell-Chase-Brinegar.
