Last updated on Monday, June 4, 2007

(WEST BADEN) - Police in Orange County have been dealing with a West Baden man over the weekend who attempted suicide, then attempted murder.

Police say John Hatfield had been arguing with his wife and allegedly beat her. Hatfield then attempted to stab himself with a knife.

Next Hatfield went to the home of Michael Slaten, thinking his wife was there. Hatfield then attacked Slaten with an 18 inch knife.

Slaten sustained numerous cuts, lacerations and stab wounds.

Police were soon called to the scene and Hatfield resisted arrest by battering officers. He became combative and hurled bodily fluids at them.

Hatfield was taken to the hospital where he again attempted suicide.

On Sunday, Hatfield was taken to the Orange County Jail where he now faces numerous charges including attempted murder, battery causing serious bodily injures and domestic battery.
