Springville Man Suffers Chest Injures In Accident

(BEDFORD) - A dramatic accident on Hearth Road and Pleasant Run Road near Bedford sent a young man to the hospital with chest injures.

Lawrence County Police report that 20-year-old Michael Collins, of Springville, tried to avoid hitting an oncoming vehicle and ran off the road and into a ditch.

Collins lost control of his auto and struck a tree. The vehicle then began flipping end over end, hitting the roadway and finally sliding to a stop.

Collins was thrown from the vehicle and suffered abrasions to his chest and body.

A witness called police and the ambulance. Collins was taken by Bedford Regional Medical Center ambulance to Dunn Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.

Police say the vehicle traveled over 172 feet from the start of the accident to the end. Collins was not wearing his seatbelt when he was thrown from the automobile.

Collins was cited for traveling left of center.

Pleasant Run Volunteer First Responders were on the scene to assist.
