Last updated on Thursday, May 31, 2007

(BEDFORD) - GM Powertrain in Bedford made a major announce this afternoon to add additional equipment to manufacture two more types of transmission casings.

Forty-four-million dollars will be used to purchase the new equipment.

Bedford Plant Manager John Lancaster says they were able to obtain the new 6-speed transmission casing machines through competitive operating agreements. He says the new contract will keep the Bedford plant competitive for the future.

Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman was there and says this is important for Bedford's economic development. The new equipment will be installed beginning next year with full production by the year 2010. Over 650 salary and hourly workers are employed at the Bedford GM Powertrain.
