(BEDFORD) - A Bedford officer got a bit more than he bargained for after he stopped a vehicle Tuesday.
The officer began following the auto which was leaving the Circle K gas station on 16th Street after the driver squealed the tires and took off in an erratic manner.
After some investigating, the officer found 23-year-old Elijah Wright, of Williams wanted on a warrant out of Lawrence County for possession of marijuana and a petition to revoke.
When Wright was handcuffed, he began to kick the officer and suffered a bump on his head. Wright was then taken to Dunn Memorial Hospital ER for treatment to his head, but he became more combative and hospital personnel had to subdue him in order to treat him.
Police charged Wright with several counts including resisting arrest by fleeing and force, never having an operator's license, battery on a police officer with bodily fluids, and reckless driving.
A 15-year-old passenger was also charged with public intoxication and illegal consumption. She was released to the care of her grandfather.
