(BLOOMINGTON) - The parents of Purdue University freshman Wade Steffey have hired a lawyer to pursue possible action against the school.
Dale Steffey and Dawn Adams say they'll work with Attorney Scott Montross of Indianapolis firm Montross, Miller, Muller, Mendelson and Kennedy. The couple says the advice of friends and family may lead them to try to find the school liable for their son's January electrocution.
In response, Purdue has begun upgrading exterior signage on its buildings to prevent future incidents. Purdue officials also say a clue to Steffey's whereabouts may have been overlooked during the initial search for the aviation technology major.
A shoe which was found outside the room in which Steffey's body was finally located was discounted as immaterial to the investigation. School spokeswoman Jeanne Norberg says searchers did not have a clear definition of what kind of shoes Steffey was wearing when he disappeared, so the piece of footwear did not set off any alarms, despite the fact it appeared it had been outside and collecting leaves for more than a week.
