Man On Trial For Alleged Plot To Kill Prosecutor

Last updated on Monday, March 5, 2007

(COLUMBUS) - A Bartholomew County man is scheduled to stand trial again.

44-year-old Robert Bassett Junior was convicted of killing a Seymour woman and three children in 1998. This time, Bassett will be on trial for an alleged plot to kill the prosecutor overseeing his murder cases.

The case involved an alleged contract between Bassett and a cellmate to kill Kathleen Burns, Bartholomew County Chief Deputy Prosecutor. Burns was the lead prosecutor in Bassett's quadruple murder case.

A jury will be selected in Ripley County because of local publicity Bassett's cases have generated.
