Men Faced With 48 Poaching Charges

(PAOLI) - 48 charges have been filed again three Paoli men on alleged poaching in Orange County.

50-year-old Mattew Thomas, Sr., 27-year-old Gabriel Thomas, and 19-year-old Zachary Cook were taken into custody after Indiana conversation officers spent four months investigating complaints from landowners around Patoka Lake.

Officers concentrated patrols in the Grimes Lake Road area and at one point, a conversation was overheard on a handheld radio from one of the alleged poachers about the illegal hunting.

Police found nine antler racks and three 30-30 high powered rifles.

Charges range from illegally taking and possession of deer, illegal tagging of deer, shooting from a public roadway, jack-lighting, hunting by aide of a motor vehicle and over bagging of whitetail deer.

All three men could face several hundred dollars of fines, confiscation of all hunting equipment used during the illegal hunting and a five year suspension of their hunting licenses.
