(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University has named a new head of its alumni association.

Tom Martz is a 1971 Indiana University grad who has previously served at universities including the University of California and the University of Massachusetts.

Martz headed the IU student foundation from 1979 to 1983 and helped to organize the Little 500 bike race. Martz will be in charge of an organization which communicates with nearly half-a-million living alumni, which is the third-highest of any college in the nation.

He'll earn a base salary of more than $200,000 dollars and plans to purchase a home in Bloomington with his wife Mary.
