Bedford Doctors Continue To Push For Consolidation

Last updated on Friday, February 9, 2007

(BEDFORD) - In last night’s board meeting, members of the Bedford Urban Enterprise Association learned more about consolidating Dunn Memorial Hospital and the Bedford Regional Medical Center.

Bedford Regional Medical Center Chief of Staff Dr. Joanne Smart says combining the two businesses would raise the quality of service. Dunn Memorial Hospital Dr. Deborah Crayton says a lot of people mistake that the hospital uses tax dollars to operate. She says that is not true.

Indianapolis-based Prince/Alexander architect Stephen Alexander says a new facility would bring in new development opportunities. Harold Stewart with Amerix Virginia Business Consulting of Carmel, Indiana, says he'll help find the money and help consolidate.

Crayton and Smart suggest a public forum would help educate the public on the importance of consolidating the two hospitals.
