Sewer, Skateboards And TV Discussed At Mitchell Town Board

Last updated on Wednesday, January 3, 2007

(MITCHELL) - The Mitchell Town Board met in a short session last night, but discussed several issues.

One resident was upset with his sewer saying every time it rains his sewer backs up into his home. Mitchell Mayor Butch Chastain said engineers would soon fix the problem by cleaning out and reworking the easement in the area.

Meanwhile, the board learned a skateboard ordinance already existed for the town after they had recently written a new one restricting skateboarding on Main Street. The first ordinance covered the entire town and had a $1,000 fine, the new one covers streets from 5th to 10th on Main and Warren streets, and has a fine of only $10. They will continue to examine to new ordinance.

In other business, Board member Dwight Moore brought up complaints from residents that Charter Communications Cable Television plans to increase rates once again. The contract for the town expires later in the year. The board discussed dropping the franchise or changing carriers. Charter currently pays a user fee to the city which is around $1,500 per year. They will reexamine the issue at a later meeting.
