Uncover Hunger Fundraising Event at Bertha’s Mission, Saturday

(BEDFORD) – A fundraiser for Bertha’s Mission Uncover Hunger is Saturday.

The event will be held from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Shamrock Center at 1723 I Street.

For more than six years, Bertha’s Mission has been blessed with support from churches, businesses and organizations to serve approximately 60 meals Tuesdays through Thursday at their location at 512 Lincoln Avenue in Bedford.

They also deliver between 110-120 meals to those that are homebound.

Annually they host community Easter and Thanksgiving dinners in partnership with the First Baptist Church.

As they move forward Bertha’s Mission would like to expand their services in Lawrence County. They hope to open a site in Mitchell and serve meals five days a week in Bedford.

“We also would like to add a distribution day for necessities such as cleaning supplies, hygiene items, undergarments, and other items,” said Janice Nickeo-Pendergrass, director of Bertha’s Mission. “To do this, we need the communities help, support, and great ideas. We hope you share your desire to serve the elderly and disadvantaged of our community.”

Every September, Bertha’s Mission celebrates with the community their accomplishments.

“This event is meant to be educational and fun as well as our major fundraiser,” says Pendergrass.

Guest speakers will be Dr. James Sowders and his grandson, KJ.

The event will feature The Chalk Guy Ben Glenn.

Author Marchee Davis will be there signing her book ‘The Cussin Christian.’
