(WEST LAFAYETTE) - The Democratic candidate is requesting a re-count in the election for an Indiana house seat representing the West Lafayette area.

The campaign of Democrat John Polles on Tuesday filed a re-count request with the Indiana Recount Commission.

Current election tallies show that Polles trails Republican Randy Truitt by 26 votes out of more than 28,000 cast in the district 26 race. The two candidates were seeking to replace Democrat Joe Micon, who did not seek re-election.

The district covers parts of Tippecanoe and Warren Counties.

The outcome of the re-count would not change control of the Indiana house, where Democrats have a 52-48 majority even with a Truitt victory.
