Presidential Race Gets Hoosiers Registering, Deadline Monday

(UNDATED) - Intense interest in the presidential election is driving a surge in voter registration.
Monday is the last day to register to vote in the November election. Registration is up 6% from two years ago, with more than a quarter-million new voters signing up this year.
That number will go up even more, as some voters wait till the last minute, and the political parties turn in hundreds of signed forms they've gathered and hung onto.
Deputy Secretary of State Matt Tusing advises new voters who didn't turn in their paperwork themselves to check online or with County Clerks to make sure they really are registered. By the end of the day Monday, registrations must have been either received by the Clerk's Office or postmarked.
In Marion County, the office closes at 5:00pm, but workers will be there late to process new registrations. There'll also be an envelope on the door to leave registration forms even after everyone leaves.
Nearly one-seventh of this year's new or updated registrations are in Marion County.
