(INDIANAPOLIS) - A call for not a silver bullet, but a “silver buckshot” solution to America’s energy woes.

Congressional Republicans have been pushing to loosen restrictions on oil drilling. Fifth District Congressman Dan Burton brought together a panel of drilling supporters for an energy forum in Indianapolis.

Former Argonne National Lab scientist William Ellingson says seven out of every ten barrels of oil America uses goes to transportation, and alternative fuels can only go so far in replacing the other three.

He says even the most powerful wind turbine yet developed produces one-quarter of one-percent of the energy of a nuclear or coal-fired generating plant.

The Bush Administration is calling for an across-the-board approach to energy, with more support for renewable and alternative fuels alongside increased drilling.

Department of Energy official Michael Brairton argues the solution to high gas prices rests with increased supply.
