McCain: Wait And See Approach With North Korea
(INDIANAPOLIS) - Republican presidential nominee John McCain tells Network Indiana he’s taking a wait-and-see approach to a deal with North Korea to suspend its nuclear-weapons program.
North Korea last week handed over a first round of disclosures of what its nuclear program has produced, and is supposed to deliver a further report in mid-August. In exchange, President Bush removed the country from the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism.
McCain says he probably wouldn't have done that, but hastens to add that he doesn't have access to all the information the White House does, and says he has great respect for the administration.
But McCain says he'll be "very interested" to see what North Korea has to say about its nuclear program, including the role it played in a suspected nuclear-weapons site in Syria and the fate of leftover stocks of nuclear material.
